Samson and the Donkey Jaw bone

After Samson gave the 30 pieces of clothing to the 30 young Philistine men at his wedding, he returned to his father’s house.

After Samson had calm down, he went to Timnah to lay with his wife. But when he reaches there, he found out that his wife was given to another man.

Samson’s anger was aroused. Samson went and caught three hundred foxes.

He tied the foxes tail to tail and put a fire stick between two tails.

Then he let the foxes run free into the Philistines’ corn field, vineyards and olive groves and everything was burned up.

When the Philistines found out that their field was burned, they said to each other, “Who had done this? It must be Samson because he has taken his wife.”

The Philistines were angry and they burned the Philistine’s woman and her family.

Samson said to the Philistines, “Since you have done this, I will revenge and kill all of you.” Then Samson killed the Philistines with his hip and thigh.

After that, the Philistines decided to wage war against the people of Israel and they set up their camps in Judah.

The people of Judah came to Samson, and said, “What have you done? You know that we are ruled by the Philistines. We have come here to deliver you to the Philistines.”

Samson said, “You may bound me but you must promise don’t kill me.”

They bound Samson with two ropes and bring him to Lehi. When the Philistines saw him, they shout at him.

Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson and he broke the two ropes.

Samson found a donkey jaw bone. Samson used the donkey jaw bone to kill 1000 Philistines.

After Samson had finished killing the Philistines, he felt very thirsty.

He prayed to God to give him some water to drink. So God split a hollow place in Lehi, and water came flowing out from it. Samson drank the water and felt refreshed.

Samson judged Israel for 20 years.

153 Fishes

After Jesus had risen from the dead, He made many appearances to His disciples. On one occasion. Jesus appeared to His disciples at the Sea of Tiberias.

One day, Simon Peter told Thomas, Nathanael, James and John that he is going to the Sea of Tiberias to catch fish. So Thomas, Nathanael, James and John decided to go along with Simon Peter.

They got into a boat and try to catch fish. They were fishing all day long but they still couldn’t catch any fish.

At this time, Jesus appeared and stood on the shore. Jesus said to them, “Do you have any food to eat?”

They answered, “We don’t have any food.”

Then Jesus said, “Throw your fishing net on the right side of the boat and you should catch some fishes.”

So they throw the fishing net at the right side of the boat and they caught such a large amount of fishes that it was too heavy to pull into the boat.

John said to Peter,”It is the Lord Jesus!”

When Simon Peter heard John said that it was the Lord Jesus, he took off his outer garment and swam to the shore.

But Thomas, Nathanael, James and John came to the shore in a small boat with the fishes.

Simon Peter helped to pull in the net of fishes to land. Simon Peter counted the numbers of fishes in the net and it was 153 big fishes.

Although there are so many fishes in the fishing net, it was not broken.

Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” No one asked Him if He is Jesus because they know it is Jesus. This is the third time that Jesus had showed Himself to His disciples.

After they had finished their breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter,”Simon Peter, do you love Me more than the fishes you caught?”

Simon Peter answered, “Lord, I love you more than these. You know I love you.”

Jesus asked Peter again, “Simon Peter, do you love Me?”

Simon Peter answered, “Yes, Lord. I love you.”

Jesus said to Him, “Take care of my sheep for me.”

Jesus asked Simon Peter a third time, “Simon Peter, do you love Me?”

Simon Peter answered, “Lord, You know that I love You.”

Jesus said to Him, “Then feed My sheep.”

The Israelites camped at the plains of Moab which was across from Jericho.

King Balak of Moab and his people saw all the Israelites had done to the Amorites and were very afraid of them because the Israelites are numerous.

So King Balak sent messenger to tell Balaam to come and curse the Israelites so that he can defeat the Israelites.

The messenger departed and arrives at Balaam’s home. They told Balaam about the Israelites and that King Balak had sent for him to come put a curse on the Israelites so that he can defeat them.

Balaam said to King Balak’s messenger, “Spend the night at my place while I go and seek the Lord and get an answer from him.”

Balaam prayed to God, saying, “Lord God, the messenger from King Balak arrived today. They want me to curse the Israelites. Should I go with the messenger to King Balak and curse the Israelites?”

God answered, “You should not go with the messenger to King Balak. The Israelites are my people. Don’t curse the Israelites because they are blessed by Me.”

Balaam woke up the next morning and told them that the Lord does not want him to curse the Israelites.

King Balak was not satisfied with Balaam refusing to come and curse the Israelites. So he sent more princes to Balaam this time.

The messenger departed to Balaam the second time to ask him to curse the Israelites.

When Balaam saw the messenger, he said, “Even if you give me a house full of gold, I will never go back with you to curse the Israelites for King Balak. Please stay at my home tonight and I will go and ask the Lord about it.”

At night, Balaam asked God about the matter. God answered, “Go with them. But you must listen to me and only do what I tell you to do.”

So Balaam woke up the next day and saddled a donkey back with the messenger to King Balak. When God saw Balaam departed with the messenger, His anger was aroused.

On the way, the angel of the Lord came to stop Balaam.

Balaam’s donkey saw the angel with the sword in front of him so it turned to the wrong way to avoid the angel.

Balaam thought the donkey was not moving in the right way so he hit the donkey with a stick.

Then the angel stood in a narrow path between two vineyards.

When the donkey saw the angel blocking the way, it went straight against the wall so that Balaam’s foot touches the wall.

Balaam was angry and he hit the donkey with a stick again.

The angel went further and stood between two walls. When the donkey saw that it can neither move right or left, it lay down.

Balaam became angry and hit the donkey for the third time.

Then God opened the mouth of the donkey so that it speaks. The donkey says, “Why did you hit me? Did you not ride me for years until now and have I ever disobeyed you?”

Balaam replied, “Because you have abused me, I wish I can kill you with a sword now.”

Then God opened the eyes of Balaam and he saw the angel standing there with the sword.

The angel of the Lord said to Balaam, “Why did you hit your donkey? If it wasn’t the donkey that avoids me, I would have killed you.”

Balaam said, “I had sinned against the Lord. I didn’t realize that you were stood in the way. If God doesn’t want me to go with the messenger to King Balak, I will go back home.”

The angel of the Lord answered, “Go with the men but you must only do what I tell you to do.”

So Balaam went with the princes to King Balak of Moab.
