Mark 9:1-13; Matthew 17:1-13

One day, Jesus took His three disciples Peter, James, and John along with Him to a very tall mountain where His face was transfigured before them.

All of a sudden, Jesus’ face shone like the bright sun. The clothes of Jesus were shining and it was very white like snow. No one ever can wash their clothes to be as white as Jesus’ clothes.

Then Elijah and Moses appeared to Jesus, and His three disciples Peter, James and John. Elijah and Moses began to talk to Jesus.

Peter, not knowing what he is doing, says to Jesus, “Teacher, if you want, we can set up three altars, one for you, one for Elijah and one for Moses.”

Suddenly, a cloud came out from the sky and covered Peter, James and John. A voice from heaven was heard, “This is My Son whom I love. Listen to what he says.”

After that, Peter, James and John looked out and found that Elijah and Moses were disappeared; only Jesus was left.

As Jesus and His disciples were coming down the mountains, Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about His transfiguration on the mountain except after he had risen from the dead. So the disciples keep it to themselves.

However, they keep asking among themselves what does rise from the dead means.

Then Peter, James and John asked Jesus, “Why is it that Elijah has to come first?”

Jesus answered, “Indeed, Elijah has already come but the people had done everything they could to him.”

Matthew 26:36-56; Mark 14:32-50; Luke 22:39-53; John 18:1-12

After the last supper, Jesus took Peter, James and John to the Garden of Gethsemane at the Mount of Olives.

Jesus said to His disciples, “Wait here while I go over there to pray.”

Jesus started to feel sad and miserable. Jesus knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup from me, yet please do it according to your will.” After that, an angel from heaven came to strengthen Jesus.

Jesus prayed furthermore and his sweat dropped onto the ground as if drops of blood falling onto the ground.

When Jesus arose and went back to His disciples, he found that His disciples were asleep.

So he said to them, “Why do you sleep? Keep watch and pray so that you don’t fall into temptation. Look, the time has come for the Son of Man to be delivered into the hands of the sinners.”

While Jesus was speaking, a group of soldiers led by Judas Iscariot arrived to arrest Jesus.

Judas had told the soldiers that the one whom he greets with a kiss is Jesus. Judas went over to Jesus and greeted Him with a kiss.

Then the soldiers captured Jesus. At that moment, Peter took a sword and cut off the ear of a servant of the high priest.

Jesus said to Peter,”Take back your sword because all who use the sword will die by the sword. Do you not think that I cannot pray for My Father to send 72,000 angels to protect me?”

Then Jesus put together the ear of the servant of the high priest and healed him.

After that, Jesus’ disciples forsook Him and they all fled for their lives.

The people were waiting for Zacharias outside the temple and wonder why he took so long.

Holy Spirit at Pentecost

At the day of Pentecost, the disciples all gathered into a place.

A sound like that of a violent wind filled the place where the disciples were. They felt as if fire landed on their tongues and they started to speak in different tongues of different nations.

The disciples were all filled with the Holy Spirit and they were speaking the tongue language.

The Jews in Jerusalem and all the people were curious and came in to see what happened. They were very confused and realized that the disciples were speaking in their own native languages.

They said to themselves, “Aren’t they from Galilee? Why then does we hear them speaking in our own native language? We hear them proclaiming the wonderful miracles of God.”

The people were very amazed and marveled with each other, “How can this be?”

But others ridiculed the disciples, saying, “They drank too much wine.”

When Peter heard that, he stood up and said, “We are not drunk. The Lord Jesus Christ had done many miracles which you have seen and you yourselves also know.

But by the Will of God, He was handed into the chief priests and suffered. He was nailed to the cross and executed to death.

After that, God raised Jesus from the dead and He now sit at the right hand side of God’s throne. It is by the Holy Spirit that we are speaking this tongue language.

Therefore, God had made Jesus both our Lord and our Savior. Repent, every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that He can cleanse your sins away; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Peter spoke to the people with many encouraging words. The people who want to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior were baptized and added to the church.

Everyone was very caring and look after each other’s needs.

They ate together and praised God for having this fellowship.

Acts 12:1-24

One day, King Herod took out his sword and killed Jesus’ apostle James.

When he saw that this made the Jews very happy, he went ahead to arrest Peter and locked him up in the prison.

King Herod had sent many soldiers to guard Peter until the day he will show him to the Jews.

While Peter was locked up at the prison, the church prayed for him. On the day before King Herod will bring Peter before the Jews, Peter was sleeping. He was bound with two chains on his hands.

Suddenly, an angel appeared. A lightning struck the side of Peter and the shackles were broken off.

The angel said to Peter,”Get up quickly!” Peter did not know what was happening. He thought he was seeing a vision. Peter followed the angel.

When they came to the prison’s gate, the prison’s gate opened itself and he passed the gate of the prison and got out. Then he realized that he wasn’t seeing a vision.

Then Peter came to house of Mary where many people had assembled to pray.

Peter knocked at the door and a girl called Rhoda opened the door.

Rhoda was shocked to see Peter and she went and told them. They did not believe what Rhoda said.

But Peter kept on knocking on the door and when they open the door, they were shocked.

They thanked God that He had delivered Peter out of the prison. Peter then left them and went to Caesarea.

The next morning, King Herod found out that Peter was gone and nowhere to be found. He examined his guards but he still couldn’t find Peter. So King Herod killed all his guards.

The people were very angry with King Herod. They protested against King Herod and had Blastus to be on their side.

On a day, King Herod sat down on a throne before them. But the people kept protesting and shouting at him.

While King Herod was sitting on his throne, an angel killed King Herod. King Herod died and his body was eaten by worms.

The Story of Lazarus and the Rich Man

Luke 16:19-31

One day, Jesus decided to tell the people a story of Lazarus and the rich man.

Jesus said, “There was once a very rich man. The rich man dressed elegantly and luxuriously in purple clothes every day. The rich man has a lot of food to eat every day.

There was a beggar called Lazarus. Lazarus couldn’t walk and he was laid at his gate every day.

Lazarus has many sores on his body and the dog always comes to lick his wounds.

Lazarus would be so happy if he can eat the leftovers that dropped from the rich man’s table.

One day both the rich man and the beggar, Lazarus died.

The angel carries Lazarus up to heaven to Abraham’s bosom whereas the rich man goes straight into hell and was burned in the ferocious flames.

The rich man who is being tortured in hell says to Abraham, “Father Abraham, please put the tip of your finger in the water and then touch my tongue so that I won’t feel so hot.”

Abraham answered, “I cannot do that because there is a chasm between heaven and hell. The people in hell cannot come into heaven. Neither can the people in heaven come into hell.”

Then the rich man says to Abraham, “I have five brothers who are pagan and not a believer. Please send Lazarus to them so that they will believe.”

But Abraham says to him, “There are so many people who can preach to them.”

The rich man says, “But if someone who is raised from the dead goes to them, they will surely believe.”

Abraham says, “If they do not believe what Moses and the prophets say, then even if a man who has risen from the dead persuades them, they will still not believe.”
