Once upon a time, there lived a man who is a shepherd of goats in the mountains by the sea. The man has four sons and one daughter.

Everyday, the three sons will go fishing at the sea. The daughter would take care of the young goats.
One day, when the daughter was looking after the goat flock at the mountains, the sun suddenly becomes very dark. A thick white mist came toward the girl from the sea.

She felt very afraid until her body kept on shivering. She tries to gather the goats but it seems that there are strong arms holding her. That very day, she disappeared but the young goats did come home.

After a year and a day passed, the girl still didn’t came back home. At this time, Gorla and his wife is already old.

Ardan, the eldest son says, “A year and a day is already passed and yet our sister has not yet come home. She must have been taken away by someone. If she left us to someone, she should have given us a token so that we can remember her but she didn’t. Therefore, I vowed that I will go and search for my sister.”

Gorla says, “If you had vowed to find your sister, you must do it. But first you have to ask permission from your father and mother. Your mother will also bake one or two cakes for you to take along with you.”

The mother got us and baked two cakes; one big cake and one small cake.

The mother says, “Do you want the big cake with no blessing from me or small cake with my blessing? You can only choose one cake.”

Ardan says, “I want the big cake.” He says this because he thinks, “What good is my mother’s blessing if I am to die of hunger?”

So Ardan set out on his journey to search for his sister. After some time, he feels very tired and sit down under a tree to eat his cake.

Suddenly a raven flew by and says, “Please give me a morsel of your cake.”

Ardan says, “No! I have only a little food for myself.”

After Ardan finished eating, he continues his journey. The day has becomes so dark until Ardan saw a light shining from a house in front of him.

The door of the house is open so Ardan walked into the house. Inside the house, there is an old man lying on a bench. Opposite the old man is a young girl combing her gold hair.

The old man says, “If you can look after my three cows, I will pay you a large sum of money.”

But the girl with the golden hair says, “Don’t take up the job offer by the old man.”

Ardan says rudely, “A counsel that is unsought is worthless.”

So Ardan took up the offer from the old man. The next morning, before the deer bell rang, the golden hair maiden milked the cow and then bring them to Ardan and the old man.

The old man says, “Let the cows go wherever they want to go but you must always follow them. Don’t let anything distract you.”

When Ardan is looking after the goats, a golden cock and silver hen came by. Ardan forgot about the words of the old man. He tried to catch the golden cock and silver hen but he couldn’t. Then he remembered about the cows and looked back. Luckily the cows didn’t stray far.

Later while Ardan was sitting under a tree, he saw a golden staff and a silver staff doubling odd ways. Once again, Ardan tries to catch the golden staff and silver staff but he couldn’t.

At night, Ardan brought the three cows back. The golden hair maiden was standing at the door of the stable waiting to milk the cows. When the three cows arrived at the stable, the golden hair maiden sat down to milk them but it was not milk that flows into he bucket but a thin stream of water.

Suddenly the old man appeared. “You who has no faith in me, you have betrayed your promise and now you will get the reward that you deserve!” Immediately, the old man turns Ardan into the stone.

The Swineherd

September 29, 2012 by Admin-FSN Leave a Comment

Once upon a time, there lived a poor but very handsome prince. The kingdom of the prince is very small but it is still big enough to ask the marriage of other princesses from other kingdoms.

Although the prince’s kingdom is very small, he is very famous. If he would send proposal letter to all the princesses, he will definitely get at least 100 princesses replying to his request.

At the place where the father of the prince was buried, there grew a most beautiful rose plant that only bear flower once in a lifetime. The smell of the rose is so sweet that if you will forget all your problems by inhaling its fragrance.

The prince owned a special nightingale bird who can all the music in this world. The prince decided that he will send the lovely rose and the special nightingale in silver caskets as dowry to the princess whom he wants to marry.

When they arrived, the emperor had them taken into a big hall where the princess is playing. When the princess saw the gifts, she clapped her hands happily.

The princess said, “I wish I get a pussy cat for my present!” ad she open one of the silver caskets to see what’s inside. To her surprise, she found a lovely rose in it.
All the ladies in the palace court says, “Wow! The rose is so beautiful!”

The emperor says, “The rose looks more than beautiful. It is very magnificent!”

Only the face of the princess is gloomy. The princess touched the ros and she was about to cry.

The princess says, “Papa! It is a real rose not a fake rose.”

The emperor says, “Let’s see what is in the other casket before it spoils our mood.”

The ladies at the palace court says, “Wow! This little bird can sweet such sweet melodies.”

The old knight says, “The music that the little bird sings reminds me of the empress’ music box.”

The emperor says, “Yes!” and he wept like a child.

The princess says, “I hope this bird is not a real bird.”

But the men who brought them says, “Yes. The bird is a real bird.”

The princess says, “Then let the bird fly away.” The princess refused to see the prince.

The princess was not so easily disappointed. He decided to disguised himself as a slave who wants to hire himself at the princess’ kingdom.

The prince colored his face with dirty brown and black then he put cap over his ears.

The prince knocked at the door and says, “Good morning! I would like to hire myself at the palace. Is there any job I can do at the palace?”

The emperor says, “Sure! I need someone to look after my swine herd.”

So the prince was hired as the “Royal Swineherd”. The prince was given a small and stinky room near the pigsty where he works all day.

After he returned from work to his little room, he sit there the whole day and made a beautiful kitchen pot. The kitchen pot has many little bells hung around it and it sings an old melody:

“Oh! My dear Augustine!
He is gone, gone, gone!”

The most amazing thing about this kitchen pot is that if you held your finger over the smoke when it is cooking, you will smell all the dishes that were being cooked in the city.

The princess happened to pass by the way when she heard the kitchen pot playing the melody. She is very pleased with it because the music, “Lieber Augustine” is the only piece of music that she can play and she can plays it with one finger.

The princess loves the music very much and wants to have the kitchen pot. So she sends one of her maidservant to the Swineherd.

The maidservant said to the Swineherd, “What do you want in return for the kitchen pot.”

The Swineherd says, “Tell the princess I will give her the kitchen pot if she kisses me ten times.”

The maidservant hurried back to tell the princess about it.

The princess says to the maidservant, “How rude is that! Ask the Swineherd if he will accept ten kisses from one of my maidservants.”

The Swineherd replied, “I want only the princess to kiss me ten times.”

The princess says to her maidservants, “All right. But please stand before us so that no one will see us kissing.”

So the maidservants stand in front of the princess and the Swineherd and hid them by spreading out their dresses. The princess kissed the Swineherd ten times and she got the kitchen pot.

That day, the princess made the kitchen pot boil all evening and she knows what was being cooked at every fire in the city.
Once again, the Swineherd sat down in his little room all day and he finally wrought a rattle instruments. The most amazing thing about this rattle instrument is that when you swing it around, you will hear all kind of waltzes and jig tunes since this world began.

The princess was passing by the room of the Swineherd when the Swineherd swings the rattle instrument around.

So the princess sends her maidservant to the Swineherd.

The maidservant asks the Swineherd, “What will you take in return for the rattle instrument? The princess says she would give you anything except kisses.”

The Swineherd replied, “I will give the princess the rattle instrument if she kisses me 100 times.”

The princess says, “I think the Swineherd had gone mad. I am the emperor’s daughter. Ask the Swineherd if he will take 10 kisses from me and 90 kisses from my maidservants.”

The Swineherd replied. “Nope. I want only the princess to give me 100 kisses.”

Then the princess says to all her maidservants, “Stand all around me and the Swineherd so that no one will see us kissing.”

The maidservants stand around the princess and the Swineherd so that no one can see them kissing. Everyone was so engrossed in watching them kissing that no one notices that the emperor was passing by.

When princess was kissing the Swineherd for the 86th times, the emperor saw them and he was very angry.

The king said to both the princess and the Swineherd, “Get out of my kingdom!”

The princess and the Swineherd are both thrown out of the kingdom. The princess regretted saying, “Alas! I am thrown outside the city. I should have marries the handsome young prince.”

Then the prince washes the black and brown dirt off his face and put on his princely robes. The prince looks so elegant that the princess come and bows down before him.

The prince says to the princess, “I came to despise you. You would not take the lovely rose and nightingale but would go after the trumpery plaything. You deserve your consequences.”

The prince went back to his palace in his own little kingdom and shut the door in her face. Now the princess might as well sing,

“Oh! My dear Augustine!
He is gone, gone, gone!”

The Emperor’s New Clothes

September 29, 2012 by Admin-FSN Leave a Comment

Once upon a time, there lived a vain and lazy emperor who only cares to spend all his money on buying new clothes; but don’t care about running his kingdom.

The emperor also seldom go to the theatre to watch show unless if going to the theatre, gives him an opportunity to show off his new clothes.

The emperor is so vain that he makes himself change into a new clothes suit every hour. The people are always accustomed to say of their emperor, “The emperor is at the council”; but the people of the vain emperor would say of him, “The emperor is at his dressing room.”

Everyday, life is so happy for the emperor. Strangers always arrived at the palace court every day. One day, two crooks who disguised themselves as weavers arrived at the capital where the emperor was living.

The two crooks announced to the people that they can make the world’s most colorful clothes with the most beautiful patterns. They told the people that they know how to make the most beautiful invincible clothes to which no one is fit to wear except the emperor.

When the emperor heard the news, he thought to himself, “This must be the most awesome clothes. If I wear have this invincible clothes, I will know who is unfit to work for me.”

So the emperor called in the two crooks and said to them, “Make a new suit of invincible clothes for me immediately!” The emperor paid the two crooks a large amount of money and the two crooks pretends to start their work quickly.

The two crook weavers set up two looms. They pretend to work on the weaving machine with the purest gold and silk thread although they really are doing nothing.

The emperor said to himself, “I would like to know how the weavers are doing. I will send my faithful old ministers to see how they are doing,”

The faithful old ministers went into the room where the two crooks are pretending to weave the emperor’s new clothes diligently. When the faithful old ministers walk into the room, he saw that there was noting on the weaving loom. The faithful old minister think to himself, “What? There is nothing on the loom.”

The two crooks politely asked the faithful old minister to comes near to see their weaving looms and ask him if the colors of the new emperor’s clothes is beautiful or not; and whether the design is nice.

But the faithful old minister still couldn’t see anything. He said to himself, “Could I be a fool? I would not say anything about it or people will laugh at me.”

The two crooks asked the faithful old minister, “Well, sir! You haven’t tell us what you think about the emperor’s new clothes that we are working on.”

The faithful old minister replied, “Oh! They are the most beautiful clothes I have ever seen.”

A few days later, the emperor sends another of his palace official to check on his new clothes that the two weavers are working on. The palace official is the same with the faithful old ministers.

He looks and looks at the weaving looms but he couldn’t find anything there. He thought to himself, “I am definitely not a simpleton!” So he said to the two crooks, “The emperor’s new clothes is really magnificent. Good job!”

This time the emperor decides to go to see the new clothes that the two weavers are working on himself.

He was accompanied by several palace officials including the previous ones which he hired to check how the two weavers are getting on.

When the emperor came to the room of the weavers, the weavers pretends to hold something up, saying, “Here is your new clothes! It is one of kind in the world given it is invincible and no one can see the clothes that you put on.

The emperor was very shocked because he couldn’t see the clothes which the two weavers are holding. He thought to himself, “Could I be stupid? I must not let anyone know.” So the emperor remarked, “ This is a delicate and magnificent suit!”

When the clothes are ready, the two crooks undressed the emperor and pretend to help the emperor to wear the invincible clothes.

Then the emperor walks under a canopy in a procession lined up with people on the right and left to see his new invincible clothes. Everyone cried out, “How wonderful His Royal Highness in his new clothes!”

A little boy whispered to his father, “But the emperor is naked!” His father exclaimed, “Listen to the voice of the child who is innocent.”

At last everyone cried out, “The emperor is not wearing any clothes at all!”

The emperor feels extremely embarrassed. He realizes that the crowd is telling the truth. He rushes back into his palace. The officials who are responsible have to run so fast in order to pretend holding the trains of clothes when actually no train to hold.
