After the Israelites camped at Rephidim, they moved to the Desert of Sinai.

God said to Moses, “I will come down on the Sinai Mountain in a thick cloud so that the people can witness me speaking to you. Tell the people of Israel that they must be consecrated and have their clothes washed. Put barrier around the mountain so that no one will touch the mountain and get killed. ”

Three days later, there was a thick could over the mountain. A loud trumpet blast is heard. It grew louder and louder and the mountain shake violently.

The Sinai Mountain was covered with smoke and the Lord’s presence was there. Then Moses poke and God answered him.

And God spoke the Ten Commandments in the presence of the Israelites and Moses.

“I am the Lord, your God that delivered you from your slavery and bring you out of Egypt.”

“You cannot have any Gods except Me.”

“You cannot make any God in the form of anything in this earth. You cannot bow down to any Gods except Me because I am a jealous God.”

“You cannot use my name to give false testimony. If you do this, God will punish you.”

“You must honor your father and mother. So that God will let you have longer life.”

“You cannot kill people.”

“You cannot be unfaithful to your wife.”

“You cannot steal.”

“You cannot tell lies.”

“You cannot envy what others had and be jealous about it.”

When the Israelites saw the thunder and smoke, they were trembling with fear.

They said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will obey you. But don’t let God speak to us because we don’t want to die. ”

Then the people stand at a distance and Moses stand at where God was and spoke to Him.

Jethro in the Bible

September 28, 2012 by Admin-FSN Leave a Comment

Jethro, Moses’ father in law heard about all the miracles that God had performed through Moses.

One day, Jethro brought Zipporah, Moses’ wife, and Moses’ two sons to visit Moses at Rephidim.

Moses’ firstborn son is called Gershom and his second son is called Eliezer.

When Moses saw Jethro, he bowed down and kissed him.

Moses told Jethro the miracles that the Lord had performed against Pharaoh and Egypt and how the Lord had delivered them from the hardship that they had encountered.

The next day, Moses sat down to judge all the cases that are being brought in front of him.

When Jethro saw this, he said to Moses, “Why do you judge the people alone and all the people have to stand before you from morning until evening?”

Moses answered, “The people have problem and so they came to seek my guidance on God’s laws and statutes.”

Jethro replied, “This is no good for you. It will soon wear you and the crowd out. You should appoint a few able men that are faithful followers of God and teach them God’s laws and statutes and then let them be judges for the small cases. You should only handle the big cases. This will lighten your burden.”

Moses listened to what Jethro had said and he chose judges of thousands, judges of hundreds, judges of fifties and judges of tens.

They helped Moses to judge all the times. Moses will handle the hard cases but the judges will take care of the easy cases.

After this, Jethro went back to his home.

Moses and Amalekites

September 28, 2012 by Admin-FSN Leave a Comment

While the Israelites were staying at Rephidim, the Amalekites came up and fight with the Israelites.

Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of the men among us that are strong to fight with the Amalekites. Tomorrow, I will go up to the hill tomorrow with the staff of God in my hand.”

Joshua did what Moses told him to do. Joshua chose the strong men among them to fight with the Amalekites. Moses went up to the hill with Aaron, and Hur.

When Moses held up his staff, the Israelites were winning but when Moses got tired and held down his staff, the Israelites were losing against the Amalekites.

Moses was very tired and he held down his staff to rest for a while.

When they saw this, they quickly take a stone and put it under Moses so that Moses can sit down.

Then Aaron and Hur helped to support Moses’ hands holding the staff on both side.

This way, Moses’ hands were not held down until the sun had set. Joshua and the Israelites victoriously defeated the Amalekites with swords.

The Lord said to Moses, “Record this victorious event down and read it aloud in the presence of Joshua until I completely destroy the Amalekites.”

Moses obeyed God and he recorded it down and read it out in the hearing of Joshua.

Moses built an altar to the Lord. Moses called the altar, “The-Lord-Is-My-Banner.” This is because God swore that he will have war with all generation of the Amalekites.

Massah and Meribah story

September 28, 2012 by Admin-FSN Leave a Comment

God commanded the Israelites to move away from the Wilderness of Sin. So the Israelites picked up their tents and start traveling.

The Israelites stopped at Rephidim and camped there. At Rephidim, there was no water to drink so the people of Israel complained against Moses.

The Israelites complained to Moses, saying, “Give us some water to drink so that we may quench our thirst? Why did you bring us out of Egypt so that we and our children and our livestock should thirst to death?”

Moses said to them, “Why did you complain to me? I am not the Lord.”

Moses cried out to God, “What should I do? The people already want to stone me.”

And God said, “Go ahead of the Israelites and take some elders with you. You must take the staff along with you. I will be there at the rock in Horeb, and you shall strike the rock and water will flow out from it that the Israelites have water to drink to quench their thirst.”

Moses listened to what God told him to do and he obeyed Him.

Moses took his staff and some elders with him. Then Moses went before the Israelites to the river.

Moses struck the rock in Horeb in front of the Israelites and water came flowing out of the rock and the Israelites have water to drink.

Moses named the place Massah and Meribah because it was there that the Israelites tested the Lord by saying, “Is God with us or not?”

Story of Manna and Quail in Bible

September 28, 2012 by Admin-FSN Leave a Comment

After the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, they came to the Wilderness of Sin.

There was no food so they complained against Moses.

The Israelites said to Moses, “We are better off in Egypt because we have pots of meat and bread to eat there.”

Moses cried out to God. God listened to the prayer of Moses and promised to provide manna and quail for the Israelites.

In the morning, God will rain down manna from heaven; in the evening, God will send quails so that the Israelites have meat to eat.

God gave instructions that the manna should be collected according to the need of the family and cannot be kept overnight.

If they become greedy, and collect more, they will stick and become rotten with worms.

So the Israelites collected the manna each morning according the each family’s need and never keep leftovers.

But on the sixth day, the Israelites collect double portion of the manna because the seventh day is the Sabbath rest.

Some of the Israelites were stubborn and kept leftovers overnight.

When morning comes, they found that the manna stank and have already bred worms.

In the evening, God sent a wind that blew all the quails to where the Israelites live.

The Israelites gathered the quails for themselves. But before they swallow the meat of the quails, the Lord was filled with wrath and afflicted them with a great plague.

Then they buried the people who died from the plague because of craving.

God wanted the manna to be remembered. He asked Moses to store some manna in a pot so that the future generation knows how manna looks like.

The manna is like a coriander seed that taste like wafers made with honey.

The meat should not be eaten raw or boiled. The meat of the lamb must be roasted.

They are to smear the top doorframes of the houses with the blood from the lamb.

So that when I go amidst the Egyptian to kill their firstborn and see the blood on their doorpost, I will pass over and spare the lives of your firstborn.

They are to eat the meat with bread that is made without yeast.

Don’t store any leftovers of the meat. You must burn all leftovers.
