Bible Story of Lot

September 28, 2012 by Admin-FSN Leave a Comment

When Abraham set out from Egypt, Lot also went with him. At that time, Lot was also very rich with huge flocks, tents and servants.

Abraham also has a big flock of sheep, cattle as well as menservants and maid servants.

The land they are staying is too small. It did not have enough space to support both Lot and Abraham’s possessions.

So Abraham told Lot, “Let us not quarrel because we are one family. Pick any land where you can see from here and move your family and possessions there. If you go right, I will go left. If you go left, I will go right.”

Lot looked across the land and saw that the land of Jordan is well watered just like the Garden of Eden. This took place before God destroy the sinful city of Sodom and Gomorrah. And so Lot chose the plain of Jordan in the east and pitched his tents as far as Sodom.  But Abraham decided to stay at Canaan.

Abraham and Lot are separated from each other now. The inhabitants of Sodom are very wicked and sinful against the Lord. All kinds of evil can be found in Sodom including robbery, prostitution, idolatry, and immorality.

After Lot had moved away, God said to Abraham, “Look to the north, south, east and west. Whatever land that you can see, I will give them to you and your descendants forever. I will make your descendents as many as the dust in the ground.”

Then Abraham moved to a place by the tree of Mamre in Hebron and pitched his tent there.

When Abraham was 75 years old, God told him to leave his home country to the Promised Land. Abraham obeyed God and departed with his wife Sarah.

Abraham also took his nephew, Lot along with him. They arrived at the land of Canaan and settled down at Shechem.

It happened that there was a famine and Abraham decided to move to Egypt because there was plenty of food in Egypt.

Abraham told his wife, Sarah, “Please don’t let anyone know that you are my wife. You are so beautiful. The Egyptians will kill me to have you. Just tell them you are my sister.” And Sarah promised to do Abraham this favor.

When Abraham and Sarah enter Egypt, the princes of Egypt saw that Sarah is a very beautiful woman. And so Sarah was commanded to Pharaoh. Because of Sarah’s sake, pharaoh treated Abraham very well.

Pharaoh gave him ox; sheep, donkey as well as servants and Abraham became very rich.

The Lord is not pleased with pharaoh having Sarah and caused plagues to pharaoh and his household.

Pharaoh commanded Abraham, saying, “Why didn’t you tell me that Sarah is your wife but you told me she is your sister instead. Now take her away and leave.”

So Abraham took everything with him, including the ox, sheep, donkey, silver and gold and departed from Egypt with his wife and nephew Lot. Lot was also rich with his own flocks, and herdsmen.

Abraham went up from Egypt and traveled towards the South. Abraham finally stopped at Bethel and set up his tents there.

Bible Story of the Tower of Babel

September 28, 2012 by Admin-FSN Leave a Comment

At that time, the people who live on the earth share one language. Everyone can understand each other.

It happened that they came to the east of the land, and they decided to settle down in the land of Shinar.

Then the people started saying to each other, ”Let us make a city with a tall tower that will reach up to the heaven so that we will have name lest we are scattered over the face of the earth,”

The people used stone as brick and asphalt as mortar for building. God knew their plan and came down to see the city and the tower the people are building.

God was very unpleased with what the people had built and said, “The people are in unity and share the same language. If this is what they are beginning to do, nothing that these people want to do can be stopped.”

And so God confused the language of the people on earth and the people couldn’t understand each other language.

From there, God spread them abroad to other places and the people stop their building plan.

God was not happy with the people’s plan to build a tower because they are not building the tower to gives glory to God but rather to themselves.

The people wanted to build the tower because of their pride and arrogance and therefore God was not pleased with it.

Therefore, the tower is called Babel because it was there that God had confused the language of the people and scattered them abroad all over the face of the earth.

Ham of the Bible

September 28, 2012 by Admin-FSN 2 Comments

After the flood, Noah went out from the ark with his three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth.  Ham is the youngest son of Noah.

The earth was then populated with people through the off springs and descendants of Shem, Ham and Japheth.  From these, the people on the earth were divided.

After the flood, Noah became a farmer and he planted a vineyard. From the vineyard, Noah made himself some wine. Noah drank the wine and got drunk and lay naked in his own tent.

When his youngest son, Ham saw that his father is naked and not wearing any clothes, he was ashamed of it and went out to call his two older brothers Shem and Japheth to cover their father.

And so Shem and Japheth took a garment and went backward to cover Noah so that they will not see Noah’s nakedness.

When Noah knew that Ham had done this, he cursed his son Ham.

Noah cursed that Ham and his offspring and descendants will always be the servants of his two brothers Shem and Japheth.

But Noah blessed Shem and Japheth that God will keep enlarging their territories and that Ham and his descendants will serve them forever.

After the flood, Noah lives for another three hundred fifty years. When Noah reaches nine hundred fifty years old, he died. Ham has a son called Cush.

Later Cush became the father of Nimrod. Nimrod is a mighty hunter. And therefore there is a saying,” Like Nimrod, God’s mighty hunter”. Shem became the grandfather of Abraham.

Noah Bible Story

September 28, 2012 by Admin-FSN Leave a Comment

At the time of Noah, the earth had became so corrupted and filled with violence. People would rob and kill. But Noah is a just and righteous man before God.

God was so sad that the earth is filled with violence. He got so upset that he decided to kill everyone that has the breath of life by flooding the whole world with rain.  But God remembered Noah because Noah is a good man.

God told Noah, “I am going to destroy this earth by bringing floodwaters through 40 days of nonstop rain. Therefore, go and built an ark. After the ark is built, bring in with you two of each kind of animals, male and female into the ark as well as your wife, your sons and your sons’ wife. You will also have to take along enough food with you for the animals and yourself.”

Noah listened to God and obeyed his command and he built a big ark.

When the flood arrived on that day, Noah and his wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives along with a pair of each kind of animal went into the ark.

God rained on the earth for 40 days and 40 nights. The flood waters destroyed everything that breathes.

After 40 days of raining, God decided to stop the rain. God made a wind to pass through so that the water will resided.

The waters started to go down and the ark came to rest on the mountain of Ararat.

At the end of the 40 days, Noah gets an idea to send out a raven to see if the land is dry so that they can come out safely.

The raven kept on flying to and fro until the water is dry up completely.

The raven didn’t come back so Noah sent out a dove this time.

The dove flew out from the ark and never finds any tree where it could land on so it returns to Noah.

So Noah decided to wait for 7 more days, before he send out the dove again.

This time, the dove came back to Noah with a plucked olive leaf in its beak.

Noah knew that the earth had dried up and he and his family and the animals all went out from the ark.

After the flood, God promised that he will never again destroy humanity through a flood.

God marked His promise by putting a rainbow in the sky. That is why you see rainbow after rain.
