The Covenant between God and Abraham

At the time when God spoke to Abraham about His promises, Abraham was very old and he has no children.

Abraham told God, “I don’t have any child and I only have a heir of my possessions who is my faithful servant named Eliezer from Damascus,”

God told Abraham, “Eliezer will not be your heir but a son of your own will be the heir of your possessions,” Abraham believed in what God said and God accredited it as righteousness.

To prove to Abraham his promises, God said to Abraham, “Bring me a 3 years old heifer, a 3 years old female goat, a 3 years old ram, a turtledove, and a pigeon,”

Abraham obeyed God and brought them all before God.

Abraham cut all the offerings in half except the bird. Then Abraham put the halves of the offerings that he had cut opposite each other.

When the vultures came down to peck on the flesh, Abraham drove them away.

As the sun was setting, Abraham began to fell asleep.  It was getting dark and there was a smoking oven and flaming torch that go between the pieces of offerings.

In Abraham’s dream, a voice from God spoke, “Your descendants will be in Egypt for 400 years. After 400 years, they will come out of Egypt with great possession. You will die at a ripe old age. After four generation had passed, your descendants will return here to claim the Promised Land because the Amorites haven’t sin enough yet.”
